Registration is now available for our summer camps! To ensure everyone’s safety and well-being, we have redesigned our summer camps to include both in-person and online camps with health and safety measures in place. Full refunds will be provided in the event camps are cancelled before they start due to COVID-19 reasons. We are grateful for your ongoing patience and support.
We welcome kids 8 to 13 to enjoy a fun-filled summer where they can pursue their passion for acting, build their confidence, make friends and have fun. All camps are taught by our Gateway Academy instructors who are all professional working artists.

話劇夏令營 (實體授課/话剧夏令营 (实体授课）
Led by professional artist and long-time Gateway Academy instructor, Manami Hara, students will develop a variety of theatre skills and elements to explore creativity and self-expression. From story building to character creation, students will learn to work together and be encouraged to express themselves in a collaborative environment.

Class size has been limited to 8 to encourage effective physical distancing between students and staff. Early registration is highly recommended.

Keeping You Safe
To provide a healthy learning environment for all students, faculty, and staff, we are working in concert with the staff at Quilchena Golf and Country Club to develop protocols that align with BC Health Authority Guidelines. Further details about protocols will be provided prior to camp beginning. Participants who feel unwell or have any symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, sore throat, sniffles, etc) will be asked to stay home.
Get to Know Manami Hara
Manami Hara immigrated from Tokyo, Japan to pursue her dream of becoming a theatre artist in North America. She has been successfully building her career as an actor, playwright, instructor, interpreter/translator, dramaturge and director for the past three decades. Most recently she was seen in Marjorie Chan’s China Doll at Gateway Theatre and vAct’s production of Tetsuro Shigematsu’s new play Kuroko at the Cultch. Manami has worked with companies across Canada including Arts Club Theatre Company, Boca del Lupo, Carousel Theatre, The Cultch, Factory Theatre, Firehall Arts Centre, Frank Theatre, Gateway Theatre, Globe Theatre, Grand Theatre, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades Theatre, La Luna Productions, National Arts Centre and many more. She is a Jessie Richardson Award winner and nominee for her acting and collaborative creations. She feels extremely privileged to be part of the awesome Instructors and Education team at the Gateway Academy where she can continue to be passionate about teaching youth the magic of theatre making, acting, storytelling, and ensemble spirit.

Following the success of transitioning to online classes in April, we are excited to offer our first online summer camp! In the comfort of their homes, students will be immersed in the world of musicals with educator and professional choreographer, Nicol Spinola. Besides focusing on choreography and movement to musical theatre compositions, students will explore acting and other aspects of musical theatre through fun class activities and engaging discussions with like-minded individuals.

Class size has been limited to 12 so early registration is highly recommended.
Get to Know Nicol Spinola
Nicol is a Vancouver based dance educator and professional choreographer. Nicol has been teaching theatre and dance for over 15 years and has taught in studios all over British Columbia, Canada, and Tokyo, Japan. As a choreographer, Nicol’s most recent choreography credits include productions of Mary Poppins and Cinderella with Theatre Under the Stars of which she won two Ovation Awards for Outstanding Choreography, Mamma Mia with the Chemainus Theatre Festival, 9 to 5 at Capilano University and Company with Raincity Theatre. Nicol also produced and choreographed the sold-out production of Sweeney Todd in 2018 with The Snapshots Collective which went on to win four Jessie Richardson Awards including Outstanding Production, was nominated for Outstanding Innovation in Theatre and won an Ovation Award for Most Creative Use of Space. Nicol is also a performer herself and has been seen on many stages across the lower mainland as well as on-screen. Nicol is thrilled to be teaching with Gateway Theatre and can't wait to share her passion for musical theatre with her students.
